Thank you for participating in the show! Big congratulations to the winners, but also to everyone else- there were a lot of amazing works of art for us to look at, and many so close in quality that it was difficult to rank them. Judging was based on a variety of factors; we looked at how much thought and effort seemed to have been put into the piece, how well the show's theme was reflected, level of personal creativity and originality, and attention to artistic qualities like lighting, composition, and detail. Many entries had excellent stories, beautiful backgrounds, or a breathtaking atmosphere, and quite a few people impressed us by creating art beyond what they had accomplished previously, trying out a new style, or letting go of their old safe habits and trying something more difficult.
We spent a long time discussing each entry, and your placing does not necessarily reflect our personal opinion- we both had different personal favorites, and several lower-placing entries are drawings we adored even if we could not give them a higher score with our judging guidelines in mind. Every judge in every show is different, but we believe we've judged as fairly as possible. If you would like an explanation of how we judged your entry, send Helsinge or Mistyhills a note; we are happy to describe our thought process. Please refrain from writing rant journals or making harsh comments about other entries- we understand disappointment, but it ruins things for other people, and unfortunately in classes with 21 and 31 entries, a lot of people will receive placings lower than hoped for, even if we loved their entry.
Without further ado, here are the results! To those who placed in the top three in each class, please let us know whether you would like your prize as a premium membership or as points. Art prizes will be coming as quickly as we can make them without sacrificing quality. Again, excellent work everyone, and thank you!
